Bill Doggett’s Biography

He began studying piano at the age of eight. He began, around 1935, in the orchestra of Jimmy Gorham. Born in New York, he formed a group of musicians in 1938, led by Lucky Millinder, where he worked as a pianist and arranger. In 1940, he recorded his first records with Jimmy Mundy’s orchestra (in), then reworked with Millinder until 1942. Then, until 1944, he accompanied the Ink Spots and made arrangements for Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton and Count Basie. He worked again with Millinder in 1945, with Willie Bryant (in) 1946, with Louis Jordan in 1947. From 1950, he privileged the organ, first as accompanist of Ella Fitzgerald, then in 1952 he form a combo of rhythm and blues. Later, in 1966, he accompanies the singer (and actress) Della Reese.

He performs at various clubs and festivals, such as the Nice Jazz Festival and the Antibes Juan-les-Pins Jazz Festival.
