Suze Orman’s Biography
Suze Orman was born in Chicago into a family of Jewish immigrants from Russia. She is studying Social Work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, leaving without a Bachelor of Arts degree.
In 1973 she moved to California. For six years, she supports herself by practicing the job of waitress. She dreams of opening a restaurant and asks for help from her parents, who refuse to lend her the 20,000 dollars she needs. The regulars of the café in which she works contribute and raise the sum of 50,000 dollars. Orman contracts with them an interest-free loan over ten years. They advise her to open a security account at Merrill Lynch, but one of the bank’s brokers convinces her to invest money in the stock market, where she ends up losing everything.
Orman follows financial training at Merrill Lynch, then is employed as a broker by the investment bank. In 1983, she was hired by Prudential Securities, a financial services subsidiary of Prudential Financial. She becomes Vice President. In 1987, Suze Orman opened his financial advisor company.
His first books appeared in the mid-1990s. You’ve Earned It, Do not Lose It, The Nine Steps to Financial Freedom and The Courage to Be Rich are bestselling successes, each sold to more than one million copies. The second figure for a full year on the New York Times bestseller list.
Since the early 2000s, she has presented The Suze Orman Show, a weekly economic program broadcast by CNBC, specializing in financial news. The show is rewarded at the Daytime Emmy Awards. Orman also hosts Financial Freedom Hour on QVC. She has presented several special shows on the PBS public network.
Having experienced difficult professional debuts, she often highlights her personal journey to convince every citizen that financial success is within everyone’s reach.
